• What are your shelter hours? We do not have a physical shelter; all of our dogs are in separate foster homes. To meet a dog you’re interested in, you’ll need to submit an application to hold the dog and set up an appointment.
  • I have a quick question about a dog before I apply. Who should I contact? We recommend filling out an application first. There is no obligation to adopt after learning more about the dog or meeting them. Due to the high volume of emails we receive, priority is given to those who have submitted applications. We appreciate your interest and enthusiasm for dog rescue and hope that serious adopters will take the time to apply and follow our process—it truly works!
  • Why are your adoption fees so high? Our adoption fees are non-negotiable and are essential for covering high-quality veterinary care and sustaining our rescue efforts. More information about the adoption process can be found in the adoption section of our website.
  • Do you offer discounts on your fees? Our fees are non-negotiable. If you find the adoption fee to be a concern, we suggest researching the costs associated with dog ownership. Veterinarians can provide valuable insights into the ongoing expenses. Please remember that the adoption fee is just the beginning!
  • Do you require a fenced yard to adopt? A fenced yard is not a requirement for adoption. However, if you do not have a fence, we will discuss your safety plan for when your dog is outside. For some dogs, a physical fence may be necessary for their safety and well-being.
  • What is your adoption timeline? Applications are processed in the order they are received, and it may take up to 5 days for us to fully review your application. We appreciate your patience! If you haven’t received a response, please check your email’s junk folder before reaching out, as we respond to all applications. Our adoption process can be quick if everything goes smoothly, so please be ready to adopt when you submit your application. We cannot hold a dog and request that applicants schedule their meet-and-greet within one week of connecting with the foster family. Adopters must be prepared to adopt the dog when it becomes available; we cannot hold dogs for longer than one week. The timeline for meet-and-greets and adoptions depends on the dog’s arrival date and age.
  • Why do you spend so much on veterinary care? We have made a conscious decision to use veterinarians for all of our exams, vaccinations, and medical care, just as owners will once they adopt. We want our dogs to have the best possible start. For more details on what our veterinarians do when our dogs arrive, please visit our adoption page to learn how our fees are allocated. Our adoption fees reflect the high-quality veterinary care we provide.
  • I would like to meet multiple dogs on your website. How can I set up multiple meet-and-greets? While our applicants can meet multiple dogs, we focus on one dog per applicant at a time. You would set up a meet-and-greet with your first choice based on the information available on our website. That dog will be on “hold” for you for 24 hours. If you decide to meet additional dogs, the first dog you met will become available again to other interested applicants. A great way to meet multiple dogs quickly is to attend one of our adoption events.
  • Can I meet a dog and then adopt when I return from vacation or on a future date? Our policy states that we cannot hold dogs in our rescue. Your application will be processed within 5 business days (Monday to Friday). Please do not apply until you are ready to bring a dog home. Our youngest litters may not be ready for a couple of weeks, depending on their age. Please understand that there will always be functions or trips, and we ask about your arrangements for when you are away from home on the application. If you can’t utilize plans for boarding or dog sitting, we recommend not holding up a dog’s potential adoption. We rely on the availability of our wonderful fosters, and delaying adoption prevents us from rescuing the next dog in need!
  • I would like to adopt two dogs at the same time. Can I do that? We believe it’s important to focus on adopting one dog at a time to provide them with a consistent routine, appropriate training, and the chance to acclimate to your home before introducing another dog. We recommend waiting at least six months before adopting another dog, as this will help prevent behavioral issues and make training easier for you.
  • Can I adopt littermates? We advise researching “littermate syndrome.” Extensive studies suggest that adopting littermates into the same family can lead to bonding issues, making it difficult for them to bond with their human family members. They are also more likely to develop unwanted behavioral issues. Based on research and recommendations from our veterinary clinic, we do not allow puppies to be adopted into the same family. While they enjoy playing together, it’s important for puppies to be separated to develop their individual identities.
  • I posted an inquiry on the Misfit Mutts Dog Rescue Facebook page but didn’t hear back. What should I do? Our Facebook page serves a wide audience, including fosters, adopters, volunteers, and the public, making it challenging for us to track adoption-related inquiries. For adoption inquiries, please email us at misfitmuttsdogrescue@gmail.com.
  • Which dogs will be at your upcoming adoption event? Our fosters are not required to sign up for events; participation is entirely voluntary. Please stop by to see if the dog you’re interested in is present. If you want to meet a specific dog, we encourage you to apply first. You are not obligated to meet or adopt if you feel the dog is not a match after applying. We can help you find the best match based on your application! Please note that our youngest puppies cannot attend events until they have had two rounds of vaccinations.
